Phat A$tronaut’s Anniversary gig with Glambat, and WEAREBISON

November 24 @ 8:00 pm

Phat A$tronaut

Phat Astronaut is an organically grown, experimental soul ensemble from New Haven, CT. The band formed shortly after singer/songwriter, chad browne-springer, and guitarist/musical director, Mark Lyon, met on a D’Angelo tribute gig. Their sound consists of experimental yet undeniably danceable, head nodder rhythms and meticulously crafted arrangements with pop sensible songwriting at the forefront.

Emily Rose writes her songs very privately. She keeps a digital sound scrapbook in the voice memo app on her phone — since September 2015 there have been over 300 entries. Some of these scraps are fully-formed songs, some song fragments, others are sounds from life: Background noise from a local bar, rain falling on the living room window, potatoes sizzling in a pan on the stove.

Glambat is a practice of transmutation. Through lyrical riddles and rambling hooks, the listener enters the maze of human perspective. Isolation is solitude. Pain is a learning experience. Embarrassment is vulnerability and vulnerability is strength. The slacker is the magician, the victim is the survivor.

WEAREBISON is the duo project of Jennifer Dauphinais and Rory Thomas Derwin. The music is prismatic, electronic, and provocative, incorporating elements of hip-hop, rock, and goth. Dauphinais & Derwin share writing and producing credits on their self-titled debut EP, which was engineered at Deadly West Studios and encompasses the chaotic yet melodic nature of the duos’ experiences during the pandemic.
